Road Safety Audits & Traffic Management Plan – Road Works Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire.

M.H.L & Associates provided a Stage 1/2 and Stage 3 Road Safety Audit for the urban renewal works on Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire. The road safety audit was carried out in accordance with the new NRA HD19/09 document published by the NRA in January 2009.

The RSA was prepared by Brian Loughrey B.E. (Civil) who is a registered Road Safety Audit Team Leader with the National Roads Authority.

M.H.L & Associates also provided a traffic management plan to be included in the tender documentation. The traffic management plan was be prepared to comply with the requirements of Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual.

Skibbereen Traffic & Transportation Study

MHL were engaged by Cork County Council to carry out a Traffic & Transportation Study for Skibbereen Town and its environs. Following our appointment a comprehensive traffic, pedestrian and car parking survey was carried out from which it was possible to construct a base year traffic model for the town. A constraints study highlighted the areas most in need of change and a detailed report was prepared and presented to the Local Town Council and the general public. The video below is an excerpt from the paramics traffic model for the town and shows a 3D view of Main Street with some of the proposed changes in place. Dublin Road Green Route, Limerick

The Design and Construction of the Dublin Road Green Route, Limerick

MHL & Associates were the Employer’s Representative, Project Supervisor Design Process and Design Engineers for the Project, including Bus Priority Corridor Study, Preferred Route & Measures, Part 8 Public Display & Consultation, Detail Design and preparation of Tender Documents & Drawings and Construction Stage Supervision. The Project extends from Groody Roundabout/City Boundary at Castletroy to the Kilmurry Roundabout (2.5km), and included design of Site Specific Traffic Management Plans and Traffic Signals design.

The Project upgraded the Dublin Road providing a high quality environment for pedestrians, cyclists and the mobility impaired with traffic calming measures, improved bus facilities including bus lanes where possible and provide a safer environment for all road users.

The Design Process started with a full Bus Priority Study including Paramics Microsimulation Traffic Modelling of the impacts of the various potential improvement measures in 2004. The study covered a 5km bus corridor.

The works include 26100 sq. m of pavement resurfacing, 4000 sq. m of new inbound bus lane, 2500 sq. m of new cycle facilities, widening of roads and footpaths and associated works, construction of new footpaths, coloured road pavement overlay (bus stops and cycle lanes), Anti-skid surfacing, road markings and traffic signs, installation of traffic signals and controls, upgrading the public lighting, new services ducting, road drainage, upgrading bus shelter infrastructure, new zebra pedestrian crossings.

The Works Contractor was Siac Construction and the cost of the Works was approximately €2.5 Million, completed December 2008.
